PRESS RELEASE (10.26.2000)

THE MINORITY PARTY DISTANCES ITSELF FROM DANISH POLITICIANS' SILENCE WITH REGARD TO ISRAEL'S VIOLENT ASSAULT AGAINST THE PALESTINIAN POPULATION

The Danish government and the Danish politicians are also the government and politicians for the many thousands of ethnic Palestinians in Denmark and must therefore show commitment and understanding, as well as distancing themselves unequivocally from Israel's apartheid and aggression - instead of solely condemning a handful of fundamentalists within the Palestinian community who manage to steal the picture at a demonstration in Copenhagen

Palestinians are being killed by Israeli bullets every single day - in recent days over 2,000 have been wounded, and over half of the 70 fatalities are Palestinian children. Despite these gruesome facts, neither the government, nor so much as one of the political parties represented in parliament, have so much as issued a press release expressing their condemnation of the Israeli politicians and soldiers' actions.

Politicians and political parties, who in the sharpest of language criticised South Africa's system of apartheid, Soviet Russia's police state and the Serbian expulsion of the Kosavar Albanians - where are you now, when it is the Palestinians who are being cut down by Israeli soldiers, where are you now when the world is witness to stones against combat helicopters and children against heavily armed soldiers?

Deputy foreman for the Minority Party, Souhail Ibrahim comments: "We want justice instead of double standards, so that all nations who oppress a minority are met with the same reaction from the Danish government, also Israel. The Danish politicians must break the silence and support the Palestinian civilians and children who are suffering at the hands of Israel's violent behaviour. That a handful of Arabs loose their cool at an otherwise peaceful demonstration in Copenhagen, cannot draw any sympathy from anyone, but that the press and the politicians begin foaming at the mouth while applying the description "Holy War", thereby utilising the tragedy to portray the Palestinians as fanatics and fundamentalists is both grotesque and unreasonable."
